A Pause That Opened Eyes And Heart

Just as the words came out of my mouth, I recalled Rabbanit Bracha’s Rosh Hashanah drasha, which presented this initiative in Yovel’s memory about seeing things anew.

I had been talking with a friend about a shidduch and when she suggested someone, I immediately responded negatively. But I heard R’ Bracha’s voice in my head. And I paused. I opened my eyes and my heart followed, and then I said, why not? It’s entirely possible that this person has grown and is an appropriate match.

In the days that followed, I have kept in mind this challenge to withhold judgement and to see things from a different perspective. I’ve caught myself several times and redirected. I am becoming more mindful of my thoughts and behaviors.

This initiative has certainly influenced my life and I am grateful for that.

Yovel’s legacy lives on.
